This is the year that I change my life. Stop by to see how it's going.

Compliments

B: watermelon (surprisingly disappointing. Fresh watermelon is lunch better.) I was so looking forward to it so I also brought it for my snack. Stupid sucky snack. Maybe it will be better if it is really cold. Maybe I’ll put it in the freezer for a few hours. Watermelon slushy?!? (215) $3.00
L: Kale green mix (275) $4.01
Sn: Watermelon Juice (215) $3.00
D: ???
Totals (705) $10.01

I joined Fitday…mostly to get the nutrient info. I plugged in all my juice for the past few days and here is my averages. Ok, but definitely could be better. Low Niacin, Selenium and protein. The niacin explains cravings somewhat (besides the general caloric restriction). I wonder what the average person’s nutrient intake is. If you do one of these, please share what you come up with.

I also calculated my ideal weight (based on the middle of the “normal” range of bmi) and then I plugged that into their weight loss goal calculator. I don’t actually have a goal date in mind, but I had to choose one. So I went for my birthday in 2013. the thingy said that to get there I’d have to lose almost 3 pounds per week, every week. That’s not going to happen considering I’m still trying to get passed this plateau (since Feb sometime), but I still like to know what it would need to be. I like numbers. I look forward to getting there eventually. Heck I’m still working on my b-day goal for this year! If I lost 2 pounds per week I would be to UGW by December 2013. That’s about 600 days away from now. That’s more overwhelming that the pounds. At least time is guaranteed to pass. I just need to continue to make good decisions.

Day Four’s grocery shopping trip:

Bag o celery
4 pounds of oranges
5 pounds of grapefruit
3 pounds Granny Smith apples (gotta go back and exchange these, they had weird spots).
3 pounds red delicious apples
2 pineapples
1 watermelon
8 cucumbers
5 pounds of carrots
4 pounds of strawberries
1 bunch of kale
2 bunches of spinach
2 mangoes
8 lemons

Let the juice deliciousness continue!!

I had some ups and downs today. A faculty member got all sorts of cranky on me (and just because she’s having a hard time doesn’t mean she get to dump on me. For the record.) that put me in a bad mood for a good portion of the day. Of course that was far overshadowed when as I was leaving work and headed for the bus, I realized that I didn’t have my wallet with me. Then I realized that it had been at the bottom of a paper sack that I tossed bit of this and that in last night. Then I realized that I had thrown the sack away in the dumpster in my efforts to clean up before my roommate got home. HOLY CRAP!!! I’m really glad that I only figured this out when I was leaving otherwise I would’ve been panicked all day. On the bus ride, I was just crossing my fingers that trash day was still Monday and that I would be able to get it back out of the dumpster. Win. It was there in the dumpster and I didn’t even have to climb all the way in to retrieve it. Note to self: don’t leave your wallet in the bottom of a bag that you may later throw away. aka don’t be a dumb ass.

After I retrieved my wallet and wiped it off I got my stuff together. I had errands to run as in going to two libraries to get health/ food related books and to the grocery store. I got some good books(The World’s Healthiest Foods  The Sunfood Diet  Skinny Bitch cookbook The Face on Your Plate). I love the library partially because they’re awesome and also because you can see what a book is really like before spending your own money to purchase. Sweet! I have some other books that I’m on wait lists for. I think that I like the first one the most. It is a huge book (think phone book size) but chock full of good information. I’ve always wanted a book to give me nutrition info for fruits and veggies, but this also explains how to choose them and how to store them and gives cooking suggestions. I just started looking at it, but looks very good.

I made three juices to take to work today instead of two. By the middle of the afternoon I was starving for the first few days, so I thought an extra juice would help stave off cravings. It did and gave me energy to do my errands. I’ve also been able to start keeping track of calorie totals and the cost of the juice. Score! I’m adding in $1 for each juice as the cost of the juicer. By the end of this month it’ll be like I paid it all off!

B:orange, blackberry, plum = 342cals and $2.25 (the blackberries and plum were given to me)
L:Green Spinach Mix (spinach, apple, celery, lemon, cucumber) = 285 cals and $4.76
Sn: strawberry, celery, carrot = 385 cals and $4.10
D: juice fail —someday I will make it the whole damn day.

Morning weight - 314

What will today hold?

B:Strawberry and ruby red grapefruit (very tangy)

L: Kale, celery, cucumber, lemon, apple —Yesterday I forgot to write that if you don’t want to get off track with eating during the day, it is really great to watch a food related documentary over lunch like Sick, Fat and Nearly Dead or Food Matters or Hungry for Change, etc. A doc about how delicious cakes are made probably wouldn’t be good, but learning about all the crap in processed food definitely will!

D: Juice fail

Morning weight: 314.6

So, my weight was up this morning because of dinner last night. But that’s okay (well, okay enough) because I know that part of it is the weight of the food, not necessarily my actual body weight though they can be related. I digress. I know that dinner is going to be my Achilles heel throughout all of this. I just have too much free time after work to get lazy and bored and silly. I’ve known for a while that I’m not using my time to the best. I have a lot of projects to work on but there’s some sort of mental block for working on them during the week. Then, of course, there’s never enough time during the weekend to get everything done. So maybe I’ll start working on projects to keep myself busy (and taking lots of walks). My first project should be studying calculus and statistics so I can pass my validation exam for grad school in August! I’ll work on fixing my attitudes towards afternoons/ evenings!

B: Leftover carrot/ spinach/strawberry/ apple/ orange with extra apple/ orange

L: Kale, celery, cucumber, apple and lemon —I was worried about the kale because my last kale juice attempt wasn’t so great, but today’s is great. I think that it will take me a while to get to just veggie juice. For now adding the fruits is great.

D: Mango/ orange/ cucumber. Didn’t really taste like much of anything, but in a good way. I was worried about the mango since I don’t really like them, but I thought that I should give them a try. I have a feeling that is going to be a theme of this month. Trying lots of new fruits and veggies in juice form. And btw the juice form doesn’t always taste the same as the real raw thing. Carrots, for example, taste a lot earthier (aka like dirt). I love me some carrots though. I also ate peanut butter. And I didn’t do anything productive, but I did go to bed early. Baby steps.

Note to self.

At the checkout- Juice fast day 1

So, this isn’t an April Fool’s and hopefully I’m not a fool for doing this.

Breakfast - Strawberry/ orange (roomie heard me talk about my strawberry/ apple/ orange last week so when she and her boyfriend made Sunday brunch she decided that this should be part of her breakfast. It was nice to have juice with other people. Plus she’s supportive which is always nice.)

Lunch - carrot, spinach, apple, strawberry, orange. Went over to some friends’ place and she normally tries to feed me all the time. I was a little worried, but I brought my juice and brought enough to share. It went well.

Dinner - juice fast fail. I was super bored and tired and chose to mess up. I could’ve made a better decision, but I didn’t, so I’m going to fast all of April (hopefully) and I’m adding on an extra dinner to make up for this one.

Afternoon weight 316.8

Strawberry-orange-apple delicious.

Today is my mom’s and my brother’s girlfriend’s birthday. Kinda fun, kinda weird and a little expensive, but totally worth it. They’re all getting together on Tuesday to celebrate, but I can’t meet up with them so I will have to celebrate sometime later on.

Yesterday morning I woke up too late to make juice, but that’s okay. These things are going to happen from time to time and I’m not going to beat myself up over it or anything. Plus I’m still in the slipping into my juice fast. One thing to definitely note if you are interested in juicing is to be careful about the amount of beet juice you consume. Pink pee will definitely scare the bejeezus out of you.Yesterday I had a touch of headache. I don’t know if it was because I didn’t have as much fruit/ veg or the weather or something else, but it was interesting to note. Maybe the juice really will help with my migraines.

This morning I went to the kitchen to juice…note to self leave more than 15 minutes for this, or get faster. I made strawberry/ orange/ red apple for breakfast and spinach/ celery/ cucumber/ apple/ lemon for lunch. Breakfast combo was Dee-Licious!

I watched this documentary and liked it. Check it out. http://www.hungryforchange.tv/
